Question
A car travels 288 km in 4 hours and a train travels 540 km in 6 hours. The ratio of their speeds is
Options
5 : 4
4 : 5
5 : 6
3 : 5
Solution
4 : 5
`"Speed of the car" ="Distance"/"Time"="288 km"/"4hr"` = 72 km/hr
`"Speed of the train" ="Distance"/"Time"="540 km"/"6 hr"` = 90 km/hr
Ratio of their speeds = 72:90
where, `72/90=(72 ÷ 18)/(90 ÷ 18)=4/5` (H.C.F. of 72 and 90 is 18.)
