Question

A card is drawn from a well-shuffled pack of 52 cards. Find the probability that the card drawn is a spade.

Sum

Solution

Number of possible outcomes when card is drawn from pack of 52 cards = 52

n(S) = 52

Number of spade cards = 13

E = event of drawing a spade

n(E) = 13

Probability of drawing a spade = n(E)n(S)=1352=14
