Question
A combination consists of three resistors in series. Four similar sets are connected in parallel. If the resistance of each resistor is 2 ohm, find the resistance of the combination.
Numerical
Solution
The resistance of a single configuration of three series resistors, denoted as r1, r2, and r3, is R1 = 2 + 2 + 2 = 6 Ω
In parallel, there are four such combinations so their resultant resistance (R)
`1/"R" = 1/6 + 1/6 + 1/6 + 1/6`
= `4/6`
= `2/3`
∴ R = `3/2`
= 1.5 Ω
