Question

A number when increased by 23% becomes 861; find the number.

Sum

Solution

Let the number be x

By the given condition,

`x + (x xx23)/(100)` = 861

⇒ `(100x + 23x)/(100)` = 861

⇒ `x (123/100)` = 861

⇒  `x = (861 xx 100)/(123)` = 7 x 100 = 700

∴ the required number = 700
