A piece of cloth 5 m long shrinks 10 per cent on washing. How long will the cloth be after washing?
Solution
Length of cloth = 5 m
Shrinking percentage after washing = 10%
∴ Length of cloth, after washing = 5 – 10% of 5
= `5 - 10/100 xx 5`
= 5 – 0.5
= 4.5 m
