Question
A public sewer line is being installed along `80 1/4` m of road. The supervisor says that the labourers will be able to complete 7.5 m in one day. How long will the project take to complete?
Solution
Total sewer line to be installed = `80 1/4` m
= `((80 xx 4) + 1)/4`
= `321/4` m
In one day labourers can complete = 7.5 m
∴ Number of days to complete the project = `"Total sewer line to be installed"/"One day work"`
= `((321/4))/7.5`
= `321/(4 xx 7.5)`
= `312/30`
= 10.4 days ≈ 11 days.
∴ Hence, the number of days to complete the project will be 11 days.
