Question

A right circular cylinder just encloses a sphere of radius r units. Calculate the ratio of the areas of the sphere and cylinder

Sum

Solution

Surface area of sphere = 4πr2 sq.units

C.S.A of cylinder

= 2πr × h

= 2πr × 2r

= 4πr2 sq.units

Ratio = `(4pi"r"^2)/(4pi"r"^2)` = 1 : 1
