Question

A student multiplied 7236 by 65 instead of multiplying by 56. By how much was his answer greater than the correct answer?

Sum

Solution

Student's correct answer = 7236 × 56 = 405,216

But through the question the student multiplied 7236 not by 56 but by 65,

Therefore, the number multiplied by the student = 7236 × 65 = 470,340

Difference of both answers = 470,340 − 405,216 = 65,124

Hence the student's answer was 65,124 greater than the correct answer.
