Question
A sulphide ore is converted into metal oxide by the process of:
(a) carbonation
(b) roasting
(c) calcination
(d) anodising
Solution
(b) roasting
Sulphide ores are transformed into oxides by the process of roasting. In this process, concentrated ore is heated in the presence of surplus air. Example: Zinc blende, ZnS, a sulphide ore of zinc, is roasted in the presence of air. Onroasting, zinc sulphide gets transformed into zinc oxide.
