Question
A truck carrying 7.8 m3 concrete arrives at a job site. A platform of width 5 m and height 2 m is being contructed at the site. Find the length of the platform, constructed from the amount of concrete on the truck?
Solution
Total volume of concrete = 7.8 m3
Width of the platform = 5 m
Height of the platform = 2 m
Let the length of the platform = x m
According to the question,
Volume of concrete = Volume used to make platform
∴ 7.8 = 5 × 2 × x
⇒ 7.8 = 10x ...[∵ Volume = Length × Breadth × Height]
⇒ 10x = 7.8
⇒ x = 0.78 m
Hence, the length of the platform is 0.78 m.
