Question

A water fountain on the ground sprinkles water all around it. If the speed of the water coming out of the fountain is v. Calculate the total area around the fountain that gets wet.

Sum

Solution

Given,

Speed of water = v

Solution:

Water that comes from a fountain can be taken as a projectile and the distance covered is the maximum range of the projectile i.e. θ = 45°.

Range of the particle (Rmax) = `v^2/g` sin 2θ = `v^2/g`

here, Rmax is the radius of the area covered.

`pir^2 = piR_max^2 = pi(v^2/g)^2 = (piv^4)/g^2`
