Question
Why is there a difference in the rate of breathing between aquatic organisms and terrestrial organisms? Explain.
Solution
The aquatic animals obtain oxygen in the dissolved form from the water. The amount of oxygen dissolved in water is much lower as compared to the amount of oxygen in the air (terrestrial environment) which necessitates high breathing rates in aquatic animals.
