AB = CD    ...[Opposite sides of rectangle]

2x + y + 8 = 4x − y

2x − 4x + y + y = −8

−2x + 2y = −8

2x − 2y = 8

Divide by 2,

x − y = 4

BC = AD    ...[Opposite sides of rectangle]

x + 4 = 2y

x − 2y = −4

x − y = 4 and x − 2y = −4 are the required simultaneous equations.
