Question

An article was purchased for Rs. 1239, including GST of 18%. Find the price of the article before GST was added?

Sum

Solution

Price of item with GST = Rs.1239

Let the price of the item before GST = x

GST = 18%

Total price as per question

x + 18% of x = 1239

x + `(18x)/100` = 1239

`(118x)/100` = 1239

x = `(1239×100)/118`

x = 1050

Hence, price before GST = Rs.1050
