Question
Answer the following question in 120 – 150 words:
In case of a difference of opinion it is generally the adult who has his way. Comment on how Jack justifies the mother Skunk's action?
Solution
In case of a difference of opinion it is generally the adult who has his way. This is a moral issue that the story raises. Roger Skunk's mommy hits the wizard for no fault of his. Roger Skunk had himself requested the wizard to make him smell of roses. But his mother goes to the wizard and without saying a word hits him on his head. Jo thinks it was wicked on mommy's part to do so. So, she wants the wizard to hit mommy back in the end. That, according to her, would be the logical ending of the story. But, here, Jack justifies the action of the mommy by saying that mothers are always right. He says that the little skunk loved his mommy more than he loved all other animals. Jack, while giving the justification, wants his daughter to inculcate the same kind of reverence shown by the little skunk towards his mother, for her parents. He wants to make an impression on his daughter that elders are always right, and it is the duty of the child to love and respect them.
