Question

Answer the following question in 120 − 150 words:
Describe the efforts made by Douglas to overcome his fear of water.

Solution

As Douglas realised that he had to overcome his fear of water, he decided to get an instructor and learn how to swim. The instructor made him practice bit by bit for several days. He was taught how to be able to breathe in water and then gradually how to use his legs for swimming.  After many months of practice and hard labour, his tension began to slack. Douglas became a swimmer piece by piece and when each piece was perfected, these were put together in an integrated whole leading him to lose his fear of water. But he did not stop here. To avoid his old fear from returning, he swam alone in the pool and went to lake Wentworth to dive and tried every possible stroke learnt there. Finally, in his diving expedition in Warm Lake, he realised that he had conquered his fear.
