Question

Answer the following question in 120 − 150 words:

It is normal for adolescents to fantasise and indulge in hero worship. How far is it true of Sophie?

Solution

It is quite normal for human beings to fantasise and indulge in hero worship because fact and fiction do not belong to water-tight compartments in our mind. Sophie willingly leads herself into believing things that might not be true or simply makes it up in her mind. We often suffer, thanks to the figments of our own imagination, and that is where the lines drawn begin to erode between fact and faction. In spite of what the people around her made her out to be, Sophie was a sensitive and intuitive girl. She was quite perceptive as is evident from the way she reads people and situations. When Danny Casey did not come, we find her waiting and measuring the changes taking place in her. She was acutely aware of these changes and of the hard burden that sadness was. She knew that people already doubted her but that did not deter her from walking home with her head held high. Unknown things do have a way of attracting people towards them but for someone like Sophie, it was much more than that. She was aware of the outcome but decided to take the plunge because it did not matter to her if she won or lost. She was concerned with the ability to make the choice and in some way determine the course of her life.
