The physical factors like relief, climate, availability of raw material, water and human factors like market, capital, affects the location of industries. To set up an industry, one need raw material and that has to be transported from somewhere. The raw material for industry is the final product affect the location of industry.

The following are the factors affecting the location of sugar industries.

  1. Sugar industry is an agro-based industry.
  2. Sugarcane is the raw material in the sugar industry.
  3. Sugarcane is perishable and weight-losing raw material.
  4. It is also a heavy and bulky raw material.
  5. Considering all the above characteristics of raw material used in the sugar industry, it is always located in the sugarcane production areas.
  6. In Maharashtra, Satara, Kolhapur, Ahmednagar, Sangli etc., are the sugarcane-producing districts, and the same districts have a concentration of sugar industry.
