While on a visit to a pond in the city-neighborhood, the visitors were delighted to find a large expanse of water covered with colorful algal mass.
Explain the cause of such algal growth.
Solution
The flushed out and washed nutrients from the excess fertilizers of the nearby fields had accumulated and promoted the sudden burst in the growth of algal bloom on the water body. This phenomenon is often termed as Cultural or Accelerated Eutrophication.
