Question

Arrange the given fractions in ascending order of magnitude:

`9/16,7/12,1/4`

Sum

Solution

`9/16,7/12,1/4`

L.C.M. of denominator 16, 12, 4 = 48

4 16, 12, 4
4 4, 3, 1
3 1, 3, 1
  1, 1, 1

= 4 × 4 × 3 = 48

`∴9/16=(9xx3)/(16xx3)=27/48;7/12=(7xx4)/(12xx4)=28/48`

`1/4=(1xx12)/(4xx12)=12/48`

Arranging in ascending order,

`12/48,27/48,28/48`

i.e. `1/4,9/16,7/12`
