Question

Babita bought 160 kg of mangoes at Rs 48 per kg. She sold 70% of the mangoes at Rs 70 per kg and the remaining mangoes at Rs 40 per kg. Find Babita’s gain or loss per cent on the whole dealing.

Sum

Solution

Given that, Babita bought 160 kg of mangoes at Rs. 48 per kg.

And sold 70% of mangoes at Rs. 70 per kg.

And the remaining mangoes at Rs. 40 per kg.

⇒ Total amount she paid (cost pice) = 48 × 160

= Rs. 7680

And Cost of 70% mangoes she sold = `160 xx 70/100 xx 70`

= Rs. 7840

⇒ The remaining % of mangoes = (100 – 70)% = 30%

⇒ Cost of remaining mangoes = `160 xx 30/100 xx 40`

= Rs. 1920

∴ The total amount she got by selling (selling price) = 7840 + 1920

= Rs. 9760

Now, ∵ Selling price (S.P) > Cost price (C.P)  ⇒ Gain

And Gain = S.P – C.P

= 9760 – 7680

= Rs. 2080

⇒ Gain % = `"Gain"/"C.P." xx 100`

⇒ Gain % = `2080/7680 xx 100`

⇒ Gain % = 27.08%
