Question
Check whether the following is the solution of the equation x – 2y = 4 or not:
`(sqrt2", "4sqrt2)`
Solution
Putting `x = sqrt2` and `y = 4sqrt2` in the L.H.S of the given equation,
x − 2y = `sqrt2-2(4sqrt2)`
= `sqrt2-8sqrt2`
= `-7sqrt2`
≠ 4
L.H.S ≠ R.H.S
Therefore, `(sqrt2", "4sqrt2)` is not a solution of this equation.
