Length of base = y cm and length of side = x cm

Base of the triangle is 3cm more than twice its congruent sides.

∴ y = 2x + 3

∴ y – 2x = 3

i.e., – 2x + y = 3      ...(i)

Perimeter of the triangle is 35 cm.

∴ x + x + y = 35

∴ 2x + y = 35          ...(ii)

Adding equations (i) and (ii), we get

 – 2x + y = 3
+ 2x + y = 35   
         2y = 38

∴ y = `38/2` = 19 cm

∴ Length of base = 19 cm
