Question
Complete the following table to draw the graph of 3x − 2y = 18
x | 0 | 4 | 2 | −1 |
y | − 9 | ______ | ______ | ______ |
(x, y) | (0, −9) | (______, _______) | (______, _______) | ______ |
Chart
Sum
Solution
Substituting x = 4 in 3x – 2y = 18,
We get 3(4) – 2y = 18
∴ 12 – 2y = 18
∴ 2y = 12 – 18 = – 6
∴ y = `(-6)/2` = – 3
Substituting x = 2 in 3x – 2y = 18,
We get 3(2) – 2y = 18
∴ 6 – 2y = 18
∴ 2y = 6 – 18 = – 12
∴ y = `(-12)/2` = – 6
Substituting x = – 1 in 3x – 2y = 18,
We get 3(–1) – 2y = 18
∴ – 3 – 2y = 18
∴ 2y = – 3 – 18
= – 21
∴ y = `(-21)/2`
x | 0 | 4 | 2 | −1 |
y | − 9 | − 3 | − 6 | `(-21)/2` |
(x, y) | (0, −9) | (4, − 3) | (2, − 6) | `(-1, (-21)/2)` |
