Question
Draw the graph of the equation x + y = 4 and answer the following questions:
- Which type of triangle is formed by the line with X and Y-axes based on its sides.
- Find the area of that triangle.
Graph
Sum
Solution
a. The triangle formed by the line x + y = 4 with the X and Y axes is an Isosceles Right-angled Triangle because both the base and height are equal (4 units each).
b. l = 4 and b = 4
Area of triangle = `1/2 xx l xx b`
= `1/2 xx 4 xx 4`
= 8 sq. units
Graph:
x | 0 | 2 | 4 |
y | 4 | 2 | 0 |
(x, y) | (0, 4) | (2, 2) | (4, 0) |
