Steps of laundering of a white cotton shirt:

1. Preparation – Examine the garments for tears, holes, stains etc and treat them accordingly.
2. Steeping – White cotton shirts should be soaked overnight if they are very dirty. It may also be soaked in boiling water.
3. Washing – They become stronger when wet. If dirty they can be washed by scrubbing on board with a brush. Friction, rubbing and scrubbing methods are used conveniently.
4. Rinsing – After scrubbing, rinse two or three times in clear tap water. Douse the garment up and down several times until soapless water is obtained in the last rinse.
5. Starching and blueing – A blueing agent needs to be added to make the shirt clean, whiter and smoother.
6. Drying – White clothes can be dried on a clothesline in the sun on a balcony or terrace area.
7. Ironing – Cotton fabrics should be ironed while they are damp. If fully dry, water will be sprinkled on them to moisten to get good results. Ironing temperature for cotton is 400 DEGREE F.
