Write a short note on the household method of laundering a silk garment.

- Washing: Silk should be washed gently, using the kneading and squeesing method. In more soiled areas like neckline, elbows, cuffs, etc., gentle rubbing with a flat hand can also be done.
- Rinsing: Extra soap water should be removed by slightly squeesing the clothes. Rinsing should be done in clear, soft tap water till all the soap is removed from the garments. The last rinse is given to silk by adding vinegar to the water. This helps to increase the lustre of the garment.
- Drying: Coloured silk should be dried in shade and white silk in sunlight. All the silk garments should be properly ironed before they become completely dry.
- Ironing: The ideal ironing temperature for silk is l00°F. If the silk. Clothes are completely dry, or if they are to be ironed after some time, they should be rolled up in a moistened towel so that they remain uniformly moist. Silk clothes should not be sprinkled with water when ironing because it leaves stains on the fabric.
