Solution
Honesty is the best policy
‘Honesty is the best policy’ is a wise proverb, which teaches us that when stuck in a difficult situation, it is always better to tell the truth rather than lying. The term ‘policy’ in the proverb implies that honesty should be followed as a principle no matter how hard and challenging the situation. Honesty does not simply mean being truthful to ourselves and others, but also being truthful in one’s work, words, and deeds in every walk of life. Being honest, makes a person trustworthy and such a person gains respect in the society. One of the greatest leaders of India, Mahatma Gandhiji, was an ardent preacher of honesty who firmly believed in accepting one’s mistakes while being honest. Lies bring temporary joy and benefit but the truth cannot be suppressed for long and is bound to surface in time. One lie leads to many more which starts a never-ending chain, difficult to break. This deprives a dishonest person of the small joys in life like a night’s peaceful sleep. On the other hand, an honest person will enjoy each and every moment of his life.
