Question
Explain any two methods to develop strength.
Solution
The methods to develop strength are as follows:
Isometric exercises: Exercises that build muscular tension without any visible muscle movement are known as isometric exercises. The contraction that occurs during such an exercise is known as an isometric contraction. Exercise that involves isometrics produces no work. Pushing or pulling a wall, a bar that is fixed to ground level, or another immovable object is how isometric workouts are performed. Significantly more muscle tension is generated, while the length of the muscle remains the same.
The examples of isometric exercises are:
- Balancing on foot.
- Pressing against the wall.
- Standing with heavy load on head.
- Maintaining a sitting posture without a chair.
- Holding a weight at arm's length.
- Attempting to lift an immoveable object.
Isotonic exercise: The word "isotonic" signifies "constant tension." Isotonic exercise is defined as exercise in which an item moves in response to the application of force. Isotonic contraction is the term used to describe the muscle contraction during such an exercise. A fixed resistance is used throughout these exercises. Throughout the movement, there is no apparent shift in obstacle, maintaining the contraction's force constant.
The examples of isometric exercises are:
- Light rhythmic exercises.
- Running downhill.
- Sit-ups and push up.
- Lifting free weights, like dumbbells and barbells.
- Hammer throw.
- Triple jump.
