Question

Explain how, offspring and parents of organisms reproducing sexually have the same number of chromosomes?

Answer in Brief

Solution

Sexually reproducing organisms produce gametes through meiosis as a result they receive only half the number of chromosomes and half the amount of DNA as compared to the non reproductive body cells. When these gametes from two individuals combine during sexual reproduction to form a new individual, the original number of chromosomes and the DNA content in the new generation are restored.
