Question
Explain how would you distinguish between the following on the basis of contours:
Peak and Depression
Solution
Peak: The valley is deep and narrow, with steep sides. The contours of a gorge are similar to those of a V-shaped valley, except that they are tightly spaced and form a narrow V.
Depression: It is generated when a branch valley meets the main glacier. The main glacier erodes a deeper 'U'-shaped valley, causing the tributary valley to be higher than the main valley's floor.
