Explain shooting circle along with its importance in the game of hockey.
Solution
There are two shooting circles, one in front of each of the goals. The shooting circles are 16-yard semi-circles, and it is measured from the inside front comer of the goal-post to the outer edge of that line. In front of each goal, shall be drawn a line of 4 yards long and 75mm wide, parallel to and 16 yards from the goal line.
The importance of this circle in the game is that:
- A goal can be scored inside the D.
- If any defender intentionally hits or pushes in this area, a penalty stroke is awarded.
- An intentional foul committed by the defending team in this circle results in a penalty corner.
