Question
Explain the following connectivity device:
Hub
Explain
Solution
- Some networks, such as ARCNET-based star topologies, utilise device hubs.
- Hubs are connecting devices that allow network traffic to be centralized through a single connecting point by joining cables without the need for soldering.
- It sends signals to the other network components and controls the network's cabling.
A network connected to a hub is seen in the figure. - Hubs are of three types:
- Active hub
- Passive hub
- Switching hub
- The active hub connects the network and improves signals besides dividing and retransmitting them. This hub has electronic circuits.
- A passive hub splits and transmits signals but cannot enhance them. This has no electronic components.
- Switching hubs swiftly route signals between hub ports. It can replace a router.
