Question
Factorise the following expressions
y2 – 10y + 25
Solution
y2 – 10y + 25 = y2 – 10y + 52
Comparing with a2 – 2ab + b2 = (a – b)2 we get a = y, b = 5
⇒ y2 – 2(y)(5) + 52 = (y – 5)2
∴ y2 – 10y + 25 = (y – 5)2
