Question

Find the centre and radius of the circle.

2x2 + 2y2 – x = 0

Sum

Solution

2x2 + 2y2 – x = 0

= `"x"^2 + "y"^2 - "x"/2 = 0`

= `("x"^2 -"x"/2) + "y"^2 = 0`

= `("x"^2 - "x"/2 + 1/16) + "y"^2 = 1/16`

= `("x" - 1/4)^2 + "y"^2 = (1/4)^2`

Thus, the centre of the given circle is `(1/4, 0)` while its radius is `1/4`.
