Find the fourth term of the proportion whose first, second, and third terms are 18, 27, and 32 respectively.

Solution

Let the fourth term = x
18 : 27 : : 32 : x
⇒ 18 × x = 27 × 32

⇒ x = `(27xx32)/18` = 3 × 16 = 48
Fourth term = 48
