Question
Find the perimeter of a triangle whose sides are x + 3y, 2x + y, x – y
Solution
Perimeter of a triangle = Sum of three sides
= (x + 3y) + (2x + y) + (x – y)
= x + 3y + 2x + y + x – y
= (1 + 2 + 1)x + (3 + 1 + (– 1))y
= 4x + 3y
∴ Perimeter of the triangle = 4x + 3y
