Question
Find the pressure 200m below the surface of the ocean if pressure on the free surface of liquid is one atmosphere. (Density of seawater = 1060 kg/m3)
Solution
Given:
h = 200m,
ρ = 1060 kg/m³,
P0 = 1.013 × 105
Pa, g = 9.8 m/s²
To find:
Presssure 200m below the surface
Solution:
Absolute pressure, P = P0 + hρg
= (1.013 x 105) + (200 x 1060) x (9.8)
= (1.013 × 105) + (20.776 × 105)
= 21.789 × 105
= 2.1789 MPa
