Question
For a chemical reaction, A→ products, the rate of reaction doubles when the concentration of
‘A’ is increased by a factor of 4, the order of reaction is
(A) 2
(B) 0.5
(C) 4
(D) 1
Solution
(B) 0.5
Rate1 = k[A]x …(i)
Rate2 = k4x[A]x …(ii)
dividing (ii) by (i)
Rate2/Rate1=4X
but Rate2 = 2Rate1 (given)
2Rate1/Rate1=4X
2=4X
x = 1/2 or 0.5
