Question
Give a geographical reason:
L-waves do not have a shadow zone.
Short Note
Solution
L-waves do not have a shadow zone because -
- The shadow zone is the area of the earth from an angular distance of 105° to 140° from a given earthquake for both P-waves as well as S-waves.
- Generally, seismographs located at any distance within 105° from the epicenter record the arrival of S-waves, and beyond 140° from the epicenter record the arrival of P-waves.
- L-waves are typically generated when the source of the earthquake is close to the earth's surface.
