Question

Give geographical reason

Secondary and tertiary activities increase in the 3rd stage of demographic transition.

Answer in Brief

Solution

  1. In the 3rd stage of demographic transition, death rate and birth rate decrease. This reduces the rate of population growth even though the birth rate is higher than the death rate.
  2. People know the importance of family planning and hence, family size reduces in this stage.
  3. As the progress of the country is accelerating, the income of its residents is above the subsistence level.
  4. Consequently, their standard of living is elevated and poverty decreases.
  5. Education level of the population and use of technology also increases due to which secondary and tertiary activities expand in this stage.
