The political groups agreed with the backward castes' social and political claims. All political groups started to support giving backward classes more seats in schools and at work. This led to a time when politicians worked together. There have been coalition governments, with the National Front in 1989, the United Front in 1996 and 1997, the NDA in 1997, 1998, and 1999, and the UPA in 2004 and 2009.
