Question

How is the SI system of the unit of volume is related to 1 litre? Explain.

Numerical

Solution

We know one cubic metre is the SI unit of volume and 1 m3 = 1 m × 1 m × 1m
= 100 cm × 100 cm × 100 cm
1 m3 = 106 cm3
Also, 1 litre = 1000 mL = 1000 cm3 = 103 cm3 .......[∵ 1 mL = 1 cm3]
1 litre = 103 cm3
Multiply both sides by 103
103 litre = 103 × 103 cm3 = 106 cm3
1000 litre = 1 m3 .......[∵ 1 m3 = 106 cm3]
So, 1 m3 = 1000 litre
