Question

If a : b = 1.5 : 3.5 and b : c = 5 : 6, find a : c.

Sum

Solution

a : b = 1.5 : 3.5

`"a"/"b" = 1.5/3.5 15/35 = 3/7`

b : c = 5 : 6

`therefore "b"/"c" = 5/6`

Now `a/b xx b/c = 3/7 xx 5/6 = 5/14`

∴ `a/c = 5/14`

⇒ a : c = 5 : 14
