If x + y = 14 and 2x – y = 16 then x = ?

Given: x + y = 14   ...(i)

And 2x – y = 16  ...(ii)

Adding equations (i) and (ii)

     x + y = 14
+ 2x – y = 16
          3x = 30

⇒ x = 10

Hence, the value of x is 10.
