Question

Incomes or Mr. Shah, Mr. Patel and Mr. Mehta are ln the ratio 1 : 2 : 3, while their expenditures are in the ratio 2 : 3 : 4. if Mr. Shah saves 20% or his lncome, find the ratio of their savings.

Sum

Solution

Given ratio of incomes of Mr. shah. Mr patel. Mr mehta is 1 : 2 : 3

Their incomes are x, 2x, 3x respectively where x is constant. Also ratio of their expenditure is 2 : 3 : 4.

Their expenditure are 2y, 3y, 4y respectively where y is constant.

But Mr. Shah saves 20% of his income.

x - y = `20/100`x

`x - x/5` = 2y

`y = 2/5`x

Mr. Shah's savings = x - 2y

                              = x - 2 `(2/5 x)`

                              = `1/5x`

Mr. Patels savings = 2x - 3y

                             = `2x - 3 (2/5 x)`

                             = `4/5x`

Mr. Mehta's savings = 3x - 4y

                                = `3x - 4 `(2/5x)

                                = `7/5x`

Ratio of their savings is `1/5x : 4/5x : 7/5x`

                         i.e 1 : 4 : 7
