Question

Justify whether it is true to say that the following are the nth terms of an A.P. 2n – 3

Sum

Solution

2n – 3
Giving the some difference values to n such as 1, 2, 3, 4, … then
2 x 1 – 3 = 2 – 3 = -1
2 x 2 – 3 = 4 – 3 = 1
2 x 3 – 3 = 6 – 3 = 3
2 x 4 – 3 = 8 – 3 = 5
We see that –1, 1, 3, 5,... are in A.P. whose
first term = –1
and
d = 1 – (–1)
= 1 + 1
= 2.
