Question
List the elements of the following sets:
{x : 4 – 2x > -6, x ∈ Z}
Solution
{x : 4 – 2x > -6, x ∈ Z}
4 - 2x >-6
-4 + 4 -2x > -6 -4
(Subtracting 4 from both sides)
-2x > -10
-2x + 2x + 10 > -10 + 2x + 10
[Adding 2x + 10 to both sides]
+10 > 2x
`(10)/(2)` > x
5 > x
∴ Elements of the given set { x : 4 - 2x > - 6, x ∈ Z} are 4, 3, 2, 1, 0, -1.......
