Question
Mention the principle of dry deaning.
Answer in Brief
Solution
- Dry cleaning is the process of cleaning of clothes and textiles that makes the use of chemical solvents, other than water, to remove grease and dirt.
- When grease is removed, the dirt too gets removed by itself.
- This is. the principle on which dry cleaning works.
- While washing with soap and water, grease is emulsified, whereas, in the case of dry cleaning, grease is either dissolved in a liquid (i.e., solvent) or is soaked or absorbed by a powder (i.e., absorbent).
- Dry cleaning is the method of cleaning clothes using solvents (liquids) like petrol, turpentine, etc., and absorbents (powders) like talcum powder, powdered sulphur, chalk, etc. These substances help to remove dirt without the use of water, soaps, or detergents.
