Solution
Heroin is obtained from Papaver somniferum which is commonly known as the poppy plant.
Chemically, heroin is diacetylmorphine which is obtained by acetylation of morphine. It is the morphine which is extracted from the latex of the poppy plant which undergoes acetylation to form the final product i.e. heroin.
